"Rory McLeod must be the musical equivalent of a six or seven ball juggler... "
The Guardian (UK)
Rory McLeod has been described as “one of the folk circuit's greatest live performers.” (Venue UK) Catch him in concert when he returns to the region in February 2020 lugging a swag of new tunes from his acclaimed album "Gusto!
Rhythmic storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Rory McLeod is a travelling troubadour toting stories and songs that are bold, percussive, lyrical and deeply personal. Broken hearts, unpalatable truths, tales of social injustice, are all expressed with an unexpected edge. Wielding guitars, harmonicas, trombone, spoons, stomp box, tap shoes, a big heart and a cheeky wit, his shows are enthralling and unforgettable, in the words of City Hub, Sydney, “You don't listen to McLeod you travel with him”. Having collaborated with some of the worlds best including Ani Di Franco, Michelle Shocked, Towns Van Zandt and Ali Farke Toure to name but a few, Rory McLeod is a performer who is at the peak of his game and not to be missed.
Orkeztar Lizmoré are excited to be supporting Rory McLeod for these shows. Inspired by the ethos of social equality bandleader Pietro Fine, who plays a wild clarinet, sets the pace for this high energy world music as played by a 20 piece group of enthusiasts. Orkeztar Lizmoré play music from Yiddish, North African, Klezmer and Gypsy traditions and fill the stage with their fiddles, guitars, mandolins, squeezeboxes, whistles, flutes, saxes, clarinets, percussion, keys, brass and many voices.
Up first for the evening will be Jatika, a vocal and rhythm-based trio who draw on the influences of folk, blues and country with luscious three-part harmonies.
Before interval the musicians will be coming together for a rousing tribute to celebrate 100 years since folk singer Pete Seeger was born and the power of his folk music to change the world.
